“Sierra Leone Celebrates Success: Graduation Ceremony Marks the Culmination of the Global Laboratory Leadership Programme”

In a momentous event held on January 26, 2024, the Ministry of Health Directorate of Laboratory, Diagnostics, and Blood Services in Sierra Leone celebrated the graduation of 13 individuals from the Global Laboratory Leadership Programme (GLLP). The Lumley Beach Atlantic Hall served as the backdrop for this significant occasion, bringing together representatives from various organisations and key figures in the healthcare sector.

Overview of the Global Laboratory Leadership Programme: Dr. S. Baboolal presented an insightful overview of the Global Laboratory Leadership Programme in Sierra Leone. Emphasising the one health approach in participant selection, Dr. Baboolal shed light on the programme’s dedication to fostering comprehensive and collaborative healthcare practices. The training aimed to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to contribute effectively to the field of laboratory diagnostics.

Support from International Organisations: Statements from representatives of the US-CDC (Centres for Disease Control and Prevention) and APHL (Association of Public Health Laboratories) highlighted the global collaboration that underpinned the success of the GLLP in Sierra Leone. The involvement of these international organisations underscored the importance of cross-border cooperation in strengthening healthcare systems and promoting excellence in laboratory leadership.

Keynote Address by the Honourable Deputy Minister of Health 1: The Honourable Deputy Minister of Health 1 delivered a compelling keynote address, reiterating the significance of the training that the graduates had undergone. He emphasised the pivotal role these individuals now play in advancing healthcare in Sierra Leone and encouraged them to share their newfound knowledge with their colleagues. The Deputy Minister’s address underscored the commitment to ongoing professional development and the cascading of skills within the healthcare community.

Presentation of Certificates: The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of certificates to the 13 graduates who successfully completed the year-long Global Laboratory Leadership Programme. Chaired by Mr. Prince E.O. Cole: Mr. Prince E.O. Cole, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, presided over the ceremony as the chair. Mr. Cole commended the graduates for their dedication and perseverance throughout the programme.
