In a testament to the power of regional cooperation, Sierra Leone’s government, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the National Public Health Agency, recently spearheaded an After-Action Review (AAR) workshop. This collaborative effort received support from the U.S. Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) through Jipigo, focusing on surge personnel deployment during the Fuel Tanker Fire Incident in Liberia and the explosion in Guinea. The workshop aimed to evaluate response effectiveness, coordination, and communication, culminating in a set of recommendations to guide future emergency responses.
The AAR workshop centred around several key objectives, including assessing the efficiency of surge personnel deployment, identifying strengths and weaknesses in coordination mechanisms, and enhancing communication strategies during cross-border emergencies.
